Referral Pathways:

Please email, write or phone us if you would to make an inquiry or referral.

You may self refer. You do not have to be diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder to use our program.

We accept referrals from all health professionals and health agencies.

Medicare Rebates & GP referral

To obtain the Medicare rebates for the program, you need to make an appointment with your GP to have a Mental Health Plan written. This is different from a standard consultation with your GP, and involves them billing the appointment as an Item 2710. When you call your GP to make this appointment, you should tell the receptionist that you are booking in to have a Mental Health Plan written, so that the correct time and billing item number is allocated. This will prevent you needing to have a second consultation with your GP.

The decision to write a Mental Health Plan for you and refer you to the Melbourne DBT program for treatment is up to your GP, and should be made jointly between yourself and your GP. If your GP is supportive of you participating in the DBT program, it is helpful if your GP writes a referral to The Melbourne DBT Center under your Mental Health Plan, and also writes a referral for a Chronic Disease Management Plan at the same time, if they consider you eligible for this plan also. Your GP is of course welcome to contact us with any questions if they wish to.
